Hello! I am Kierstin Oliver. I hold a masters degree in couples, marriage, and family therapy from Portland State University, as well as a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Oregon. I came into my counseling career through work with individuals in my private art studio. Counseling is both creative and collaborative; together we work to build a relationship that nurtures freedom of expression and holistic resolutions. My process is flexible and innovative with the goal of creating a satisfying and healing experience for you.
My approach is client centered and based in attachment theory. Relationships, stories, and emotions are highlighted in my practice. I feel that past experiences are valuable in that they color our perceptions of the present. I treasure the therapeutic relationship and honest feedback about the process.
I am deeply committed to the benefits of walking in combination with traditional talk therapy. My understanding of this work continues to unfold and I am grateful for having found a literal path that keeps me feeling inspired and committed. In recent years, I have worked extensively with adolescents coping with poor self esteem, addiction, and abuse. Currently, young adults, transitioning from the world of family to an autonomous and independent life, have become a specialty. Both expressive arts therapy and walk and talk therapy prove to be powerful approaches for working with this special population.
In addition to my private practice, I am raising a child and developing my own multimedia painting practice. I am LGBTQ identified and have had the pleasure of working with people from around the globe. Over the past several years, I have helped people coping with:
Low Self Esteem
Depression
Anxiety
Relationship Problems
Identity Issues
Life Transitions
Trauma
Sexuality
